In a A Darkness Unfolds, by me, written on December 19, 2024, I wrote:
The world is on fire, as Bill Nye the Science Guy put it so eloquently. His work reminds us that climate change is real and when not taken seriously, you have events like Hurricane Helene that devastated parts of the south not accustomed to such storms. I once rode those country roads in Tennessee, the scenery, the smell, a beauty unlike anything else. That country, Trump country, now devastated. I pray for the good people of those parts. None of them deserved this storm.
Any innocent person impacted by natural disasters deserve our empathy, respect, and affection.
Be they from Trump families, Kamala families, or any other “family” used as a weapon to divide and conquer.
My emotions have been centred with the families of those who were swept up in the fast moving flood waters in Kerr County, Texas, and surrounding areas.
None of them deserved that fate and why God allowed it to happen is beyond me. Among the dead were many children.
I do not know the pain they are experiencing but still I weep. My tears are not as heavy but they are real.
The tears of millions are with the citizens of Texas as they are presently suffering.
So many impacted, immediate family, extended family, school communities, Church communities, entire towns.
I trust the good hearted souls of those parts will continue to emerge in response and grow in strength and numbers to complete the task that lies ahead.
This includes.

Since the communities impacted belong to the dominant white Republican culture common in those parts means it will get the attention it deserves. I trust they will also call for accountability.
In the past, I have, on numerous occasions, spoken of “plagues.”
Consider this from A Dark Smoke Gathers, January 9, 2025. The shocking events of early January 2025 are mentioned.
Consider the plagues already known. They do not come from outside, from beyond the walls of the palace, but from within. It started with the tragic events in New Orleans and then Las Vegas, and in other venues that day and the days after. God had nothing to do with this. God has nothing to do with the “schemes of men” that conspire and plot against a neighbor. That plague did not come from God but is born and executed by men. Thoughts of invading friendly allies is a plague, no doubt. It heighten emotions, is divisive in nature, and instills fear in friends and allies. How many other plagues from that one source must I name?
In this context, plagues are internal to persons, not emanating from God. Acts of evil and God do not coexist, rather, human beings an acts of evil coexist, and must be named and condemned accordingly.
The concept that God uses natural disasters in 2025 in an intentional act to punish a people for misdeeds is not only moot but an anti-intellectual distraction.
To that I say anathama sit.
Natural disasters are getting more extreme, and regardless the cause, they must be addressed since as stewards of God’s creation we are bound to care for Mother Earth and so care for all humanity.
Consider the words of Pope Leo for the World day of prayer for The Care of Creation, September 1, 2025:
Environmental justice – implicitly proclaimed by the prophets – can no longer be regarded as an abstract concept or a distant goal. It is an urgent need that involves much more than simply protecting the environment. For it is a matter of justice – social, economic and human. For believers it is also a duty born of faith, since the universe reflects the face of Jesus Christ, in whom all things were created and redeemed. In a world where the most vulnerable of our brothers and sisters are the first to suffer the devastating effects of climate change, deforestation and pollution, care for creation becomes an expression of our faith and humanity.
I submit that the discussion of God intentionally striking a people with natural disasters is not one I am privy to. That discussion is left to higher ups, as in, the apostles, elders, heavenly hosts allowed into the meeting. Certainly I am not a part of that group.
Natural disasters, on the other hand, do reveal a lot about human beings, and they reveal a lot of truth behind the scenes that like a sand worm makes its way to the surface of the beach.
The horrific aftermath of what that happened when Hurricane Helene hit in September, 2024, striking North Carolina and Tennessee, among other states, is ongoing even in 2025.
Sadly, forgotten, since people in those states continue to suffer. That storm hit a diverse population across many states, where what happened in central Texas happened to a much smaller group of individuals and families.
As of this writing, twenty seven girls were all swept away in the night in that awful swollen and violent river, at Camp Mystic known for its noble and illustrious history.
I mention to say, while the news cycle moved on quickly from the good people of the Carolinas, Virginia, Florida, Georgia, here, in Texas, expect the news cycle on this issue to continue for some time.
That is, the Texas flood story, may not be just another story one can easily move on from. It hits deep into MAGA circles, and it hits hard. The counter force dynamics have not even unfolded.
They are still in the midst of pure chaos and destruction. That energy for now is being directly aimed where it belongs, helping the people to recover, find, bring home, those still missing, to begin clean up and recovery, to bury the dead.
The shock to that county is a thousand times worse than had a meteorite struck in the middle of the County seat.
And even now, the momentum begins. It may be local, and may not be a harbinger of things to come, but it will be a power the Trump camp will not be able to ignore.
The point here is not that Texan republicans will leave that particular culture. They will not. It is a proud culture symbolized by LBJ and the two Bush kin.
Is it tragic that this proud tradition and culture has been compromised by the MAGA movement?
Yes.
There is little going back at this point. While some will retain their republican identity, I trust that many in Texas impacted by this horrific tragedy will see the anamoly in the White House for what it is, the antithesis of efficient governance, and unable to meet the crisis at its door.
Will this begin a wider movement, will the curtain finally be drawn for many of them? For some, perhaps, but it will take more than one tragic event to crack the cult’s fortified wall.
To be continued.
The plagues will continue to come.
On July 7, 2025, a military operation in an empty park in Los Angeles took place, the first of its kind, with active military personnel and law enforcement from a a number of agencies in a show of force that turned up nothing.
The plague that happens to sit in the Oval will continue to spawn other man made plagues that will continue to terrorize segments of the nation.
Will natural events continue to reveal the ineptitude of this administration.
The Texas GOP culture of today as proud as they are failed in a very critical mission, to maintain a system of communication that was prepared to warn vulnerable children and adults of an incoming flash flood in a timely manner. That culture failed those children and trust me, people will be held accountable.
The storms will continue, be they tornadoes, hurricanes, fires, floods, and so much more.
Expect to be shocked.
Those natural disasters belong to nature and are innocent of all the intentions humans impute on them. Whether God initiates them for some cause is not something I can know, and I am not one to speculate.
I know there is a God. I also know that I am not God. Sadly, some people think otherwise.
Here is the real plague, the schemes of men, their war plans, their aim at blue cities and the American people. Will it ignite a spark not yet seen?
The Manson murders in 1969 basically put an end to the hippie movement of the 1960s. Charles Manson and his followers were cultist, unable to survive without a constant need to control and dominate.
The MAGA movement is no different, but rather than confined to a small band of desert rats, it encompasses a good chunk of the country.
Unfortunately, it will take more than one shock event to do the trick. January 6 was not enough, rounding up citizens and disappearing them not enough, a high powered feud between Trump and Musk, not enough, cruel immigration stunts, not enough, building an alligator infested internment camp, not enough.
What about the floods in central Texas, most likely, not enough. Perhaps a crack will emerge, and this is good, we encourage that, but sadly, what may come could be much worse.
God help us.
